A powerful read for any age

I had heard that this author was incredible, so I decided to make 'Shadow' a read aloud bedtime book for my seven year old. The story is gripping. It challenged her. It is heartwarming, compelling and the first book that has made her cry!

We have poured over maps of Afghanistan, tracking the route that Aman took. We have looked at photos of David Beckham. We have discussed language, factions in different countries, Muslims, torture... All good bedtime reading topics! Actually Michael Morpurgo keeps it quite light and there is plenty of humour. The characters are wonderful and highly believable.

A classy five star read which I enjoyed as much as she did.

will make you think!

Aman is just 14 years old and he has seen so much heart ache. He lives with his mother in an Afghan cave. A stray dog wonders up one day and this animal gives him comfort and friendship. Aman and his mother along with the dog finally escape to England. Their hardships do not end, they are sent to a refugee camp. This is the story of their struggle and how a sweet dog helps out in the most unusual way.

I was a little disappointed to not learn what the addition to the family ...

Jamie and Erica have climbed alot of really rocky hills, but somehow they've topped them all in a smokin' hot way.
Handle with Care gives us a look at Jamie and Erica's life after they decided that their relationship was worth fighting for.
Juggling jobs, a house, a 4 year old little girl, an impending addition to the family and keeping things hot in the bedroom are just a few of the problems that the couple deal with.
Not only is Handle With Care a smoking hot romance, it's also a lesson in how open, honest feelings and thoughts should be shared.
I was a little disappointed to not learn what the addition to the family is, but I'm sure Kristine will let us know in her own time.

Getting stronger

In reading this story, it struck me that in building so much of their relationship on what happened in the bedroom, Jamie and Erika forgot to remember to also work on building that same trust and faith in their relationship *outside* the bedroom. That's sort of what this book focused on, though, and it was nice to see them take those steps toward complete honesty and sharing. It was great to see more of what was started in Aftershocks and Under His Command, and I love that despite the possible setback they faced, Jamie and Erika are still going strong -- and they'll only get stronger.

Another wonderful story....

I liked the story a lot. I enjoyed reading the update on the characters and their relationship. Even the intertwining of the BDSM was done very well. But I can tell I'd never make it as a Sub....the sticking point: the discipline spanking. The first time I got the necessity; fire play is a serious thing even if it is supposed to be sexy/fun. But by the end of the story when the author mentions the hero made mistakes......hmmm shouldn't he get his butt spanked for screwing up and lose privileges too? But despite that, the story was well written and edited.

This book is rather weak and deceptive in that it the author does not develop any information on the subject matter. It is deceptive because the motive is clearly seen to be racial in nature. It not at all what the title suggests.

I thought it might help me be a better instructor/professor of chemistry

I was inspired to read this book by seeing the author on TV discussing it. Since I am an educator and former army officer, I thought it might help me be a better instructor/professor of chemistry. It made me more aware that my negative thoughts towards certain students might hinder their progress. I learned some things I needed to know and gained more respect for the author and his ideas. Despite a rough childhood and a huge business setback resulting in a divorce, he handled these major hurts like a man to be admired and emulated. I hope I recall his example if I ever face such trials. He is serious, honest, open about his issues. To me he really exhibits valor, both in war and in civilian life, where it is still very much needed!
I highly recommend this book.

I think The Red Circle (TRC) is five star. I heard an excerpt from this book on on SOFREP Radio and really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, the books is about 50% excerpts from TRC and 50% freestyle writing. I feel a bit betrayed honestly: I gave the author $10 for a blog post. (The book is 52 pages and a big chunk of that is cut and paste from his prior book.)

That said, I highly recommend The Red Circle. It's excellent.

This book was a total ripoff. Left me save you the cost of the book with this summary: Self-talk is very important, encourage yourself by saying, "I can do this!" And you'll be far more successful. The author talks about "...doing what any SEAL would do, exceed expectations." Well, I truly feel like all I learned was how to line the author's pockets. All I can say is, thank you so much for your service.

Expect Harlequinn type romance with a touch of fantasy

It's possible I was mistaken about the genre of this book when I first downloaded it. What I expected was high fantasy, what I got was more akin to Harlequinn romance.

While it's still a fantasy, set in an imaginary world with a small amount of supernatural, the emphasis is definitely on the romance and the plot centers on the relationship between the two main characters. Approximately the last third of the bookconsists almost exclusively of graphic sex scenes and the villain is more just a common foe than a present threat with most of his evil having been done in the past as opposed to making the reader worry what he might do next.

I myself prefer fantasy with a touch of romance without graphic sex scenes, but if you like your smut with a touch of fantasy, you may enjoy this one.

okay story but lost me at the first fight scene.

The premise of this story is alright. But the fight scenes were bad. It might be O.C.D on my part but the use of weapons mechanics was just horrid. For example he throws a knife and follows up with a bow. A knife short to medium range when thrown. A bow Long range. I know it is fantasy and an author can do what they want, but this kicked me out of enjoyment mode. I limped along trying to get back into the story but in the end failed.
If this book is still free when you read this review then give the book a try, if not then read the sample before buying.
My issue with this book could also be that the previous book I read was by Anne Rice.

Decent Story - Weak Characters

This is a good enough story to sit and read.

Beginning, Middle, and End there isn't anything that I relentlessly hated but then there wasn't anything that I thoroughly enjoyed, either.

The only thing in this story that I started to really dislike was the characters and how they change so quickly.

Accacia is described as beautiful - and it is mentioned a number of times. If it's not her beautiful looks it's how honey-like her voice is. Her flaws lie in how she has been emotionally and physically abused.

It is mentioned that Aleco is a man who is alone, often hidden from the world. A man who trusts no one, who is always on guard and is an elite fighter who's skills are unsurpassed. His past haunts him.

Very quickly - VERY QUICKLY... Accacia becomes reliant on Aleco and trusts him - just as Aleco trusts her. This "trust" changes into a weird sort of friendship that, transforms into lust and love.

The relationship bothers me something terrible.

A described "strong" character turns into a teary, reliant, trusting man in very few pages. Accacia doesn't do anything all that profound to gain his trust (in fact, she did things that should have made Aleco not trust her at all) and after showing him affections she pushes him away and his response to it is begging, groveling!

Okay, maybe the characters REALLY bugged me.

I tried to like Aleco - and I did at the VERY beginning - and I tried to like Accacia - that didn't happen - but these two characters just weren't interesting to me. As much as a sob story that Accacia had and I felt zero pity. As terrible as the Duke was to Aleco I just did care...

A decent story with weak characters.
